Snowmobiling
Gaylord is known for being the snowbelt mecca of northern lower Michigan and we are in the thick of it! Heart Lake Resort is located directly across the street from Trail 7, giving riders endless opportunities to explore. No snowmobile, no problem, as there are rental outfitters in the area.
Ice fishing
Guests are on the water from the moment they arrive at Heart Lake Resort. Only steps outside of the cottage, guests can ice fish for a variety of species including perch, rainbow trout, bluegill, and pike. If you’re not familiar with the lake, we suggest using the mobile app, Navionics, to better understand Heart Lake’s depths. As always, exercise caution as this is a spring-fed lake!
Cross country skiing & snowshoeing
Beautiful groomed trails can be found within minutes of Heart Lake Resort. Whether you’re a seasoned professional, or new to the sport,there are miles of trail to explore. Cross country ski rentals are also available in the area.

Prefer to break your own trail? Take a snowy hike through the Pigeon River Forest. Anywhere there is snow, there is an opportunity to form your own trail!
Ice skating
Depending on ice conditions, guests are welcome to ice skate around Heart Lake. If ice conditions aren’t suitable, visit the Otsego County Sportsplex where they offer an indoor skating rink for guests of all ages to enjoy. Be sure to check their website for open skate hours.
Rest & relax
Take a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life and unwind in your cottage! Watch the snowfall on the lake, snuggle up under a blanket with a good book, or warm up with a hot beverage and enjoy good conversation. We are a perfect getaway for a little R & R.
